Incheon Airport to Gwanghwamun, in short ·

In shortFrom Incheon, the easy way is the airport limousine bus 6002 or 6011: no transfer, ₩17,000, about 70–90 minutes, and the stop is a 6–8 minute walk from the hotels. The fast way is AREX Express to Seoul Station and Line 1 two stops to Jonggak. The cheap way is the all-stop train and the same subway ride. Trains and buses stop around 23:00–23:40; after that take the N6002 night bus, and use N6701 only if N6002 has no seats. From Gimpo, Line 5 runs straight to Gwanghwamun.

Step 1 · After you land

Before you leave Incheon Airport

A few small things to settle before you leave the airport.

  1. Note your terminal. Incheon has two, and the bus stops differ; the AREX railroad serves both.
  2. Count the time. Allow about an hour from landing to the arrivals hall, longer at peak times.
  3. Get online. A SIM or eSIM, plus Naver Map or Kakao Map for the final walk.
  4. Take a little cash. An ATM in arrivals gives you won for a T-money top-up or a taxi.

Step 2 · Choose your way in

Incheon Airport to Gwanghwamun: every route on one map

Only the routes that bring you in are drawn, and each one stops at Jongno, where the hotels are: the airport and night buses, AREX to Seoul Station, Line 1 from Seoul Station to Jonggak, Line 5 from Gimpo, and the taxi corridor. Tap a button to show one at a time.

How to read it. The shaded circle is the four hotels around Jogyesa Temple, between Gwanghwamun, Jonggak and Anguk. Incheon Airport lies about 50 km off the left edge; every Incheon route enters from there. Every station on the rail routes is marked; AREX ends at Seoul Station, where Line 1 runs two stops to Jonggak. The buses and the taxi are drawn as corridors rather than exact roads. N6002 stops at the Four Seasons Hotel by Gwanghwamun; N6701 stops short of the hotels at Euljiro 1-ga. Dashed lines are district boundaries. Not for navigation.

Times and fares are for 2026 and move: check the operator’s site or app on the day. After about 23:30 only a taxi, a private vehicle or the night bus below will do.

Step 3 · The ride

How to take each route, step by step

A · Airport bus 6002 or 6011

₩17,000 · 70–90 min · no transfer
  1. Walk outside to the limousine stops. Follow “Limousine Bus” signs from arrivals. Route 6011 boards at stop 5B on the first floor at Terminal 1 and at stop 31 on level B1 at Terminal 2. Check the route number on the stop’s display for 6002.
  2. Buy a ticket at the ticket office. The operator’s site says tickets must be bought at the ticket office (notice dated March 2026). Queue there rather than counting on paying the driver. Hand your large bag to the driver and keep a day bag with you.
  3. Ride. The bus runs through Hongdae and Hapjeong into Jongno; allow 70–90 minutes, more at rush hour. The bus shows the next stop in Korean and English.
  4. Get off at the stop that suits your hotel. 6002 stops at Gwanghwamun and then Jongno 1-ga; 6011 stops at Anguk. Step 4 below says which is nearest to which hotel.

B · AREX Express, then Line 1

₩13,000 + ₩1,550 · 43–51 min + 2 stops
  1. Buy a T-money card at the airport — at the convenience store in arrivals (GS25 or CU), with cash. You only need it for Line 1: the Express is a separate ticket and is not paid with T-money. Load at least ₩1,550, the Line 1 fare; ₩2,000 is a safe round figure. Card types and top-ups: Getting Around Seoul.
  2. Go down to the AREX station at the basement level of your terminal and buy an Express ticket at the machine or counter. Booked online it costs about ₩11,400; a reserved seat is printed on the ticket.
  3. Ride non-stop to Seoul Station — about 43 minutes. Racks sit at the ends of each carriage; you lift your own bags.
  4. Change to Line 1 at Seoul Station, following the signs to Line 1 toward Cheongnyangni / Soyosan. The change takes about 10 minutes with bags. Tap in with a T-money card.
  5. Ride two stops — Seoul City Hall, then Jonggak — and tap out. Walk to your hotel: 5 minutes to The Prima, 7 to Shilla Stay.
A plain charcoal T-money transit card on a stone surface
T-moneyThe card to buy at the airport convenience store. It comes empty: pay for the card, then load it with cash.

C · All-stop train, then Line 1

₩4,750 / ₩5,350 in all · 59–66 min + 2 stops
  1. Buy a T-money card at the airport and load at least ₩7,000. The convenience store in arrivals sells and tops up cards, with cash. The Climate Card does not work on this line.
  2. Go down to the AREX station and tap through the gate. Take the all-stop train (the commuter service), not the Express. It calls at 12 stations, including Hongik University (Hongdae). The first train is about 05:25 from T1 or 05:18 from T2; the last about 23:39 from T1 or 23:32 from T2.
  3. Ride to Seoul Station (59–66 minutes) and tap out. Cars can be crowded in rush hour and have no luggage racks.
  4. Change to Line 1, tap in, ride two stops to Jonggak and tap out. Tap out and back in within 30 minutes and T-money counts it as one trip, so Line 1 adds no new ₩1,550 fare.

D · Taxi or private vehicle

From ₩65,000 / ₩90,000 · 60–80 min · door to door
  1. Taxi: use the rank outside arrivals, or book through the Kakao T app. Regular taxis are metered; international taxis are set up for foreign-language help. You pay the airport-expressway tolls on top of the meter.
  2. Private vehicle: book before you fly, with your flight number. The driver waits in arrivals with your name and the fare is fixed. Check the operator’s waiting-time policy if your flight is often late.
  3. Show the hotel name in Korean. Do not rely on the English name: tap your hotel below so it stands out, then show the screen, or paste the Korean name into Kakao T.

+
Special case · After 23:00

After midnight: the N6002 night bus to Gwanghwamun

The last AREX trains leave about 23:30–23:40 and the daytime limousine buses stop about 23:00. After that you have one cheap choice and one fallback.

First choice

N6002 · Cheongnyangni

₩17,000

  • Route: Terminal 1 → Hongdae (45 min) → Four Seasons Hotel, Gwanghwamun (60 min) → Heunginjimun / Dongdaemun (75 min) → Cheongnyangni (90 min).
  • Departs T1: about 00:00 · 00:30 · 01:00 · 01:40 · 04:00 · 04:40. Terminal 2 is about 20 minutes earlier.
  • Boarding: stop 6A at Terminal 1. Ask at the information desk for the Terminal 2 stop.
  • Walk: from the Four Seasons stop it is about 9–14 minutes to the four hotels (see Step 4).

Only if N6002 is full

N6701 · Dongdaemun Design Plaza

₩18,000

  • Route: Terminal 1 (stop 3B) → Mapo Station (50 min) → Seoul Station (60 min) → Euljiro 1-ga / Lotte Hotel (65 min) → Dongdaemun Design Plaza (70 min). Terminal 2 boards at stop 18.
  • Departs T1: from about 23:50 to 04:40; roughly one an hour.
  • Not a Gwanghwamun bus: it never enters Jongno. Euljiro 1-ga is about 1 km south of the hotels.
Why N6701 is a forced fallback

Treat N6701 as the bus you take when N6002 has no seats, and for no other reason. Night buses carry seated passengers only, so a full N6002 leaves you on the kerb until the next one, and the gap between 01:40 and 04:00 is long. N6701 is the other night bus that gets you into central Seoul. It costs ₩1,000 more and drops you about a kilometre from the hotels.

If you take it, get off at Euljiro 1-ga (Lotte Hotel), then walk about 15–20 minutes north through lit, busy streets or ride a short taxi; the meter starts at about ₩4,800. Do not ride on to Dongdaemun.

If both are full, or you would rather not wait, a taxi runs all night at ₩90,000 or more.

The other airport · Gimpo (GMP)

Gimpo Airport to Gwanghwamun

Gimpo handles Jeju and domestic flights, and short international flights, mostly from Japan, China and Taiwan. It is closer to Gwanghwamun than Incheon, and the best way in is the simplest one on this page. Choose “From Gimpo” on the map above to see it.

Best · no transfer

Subway Line 5

≈ ₩2,000 · 45–50 min

  • Follow the Line 5 signs in the airport station and ride the eastbound trains (toward Hanam Geomdansan or Macheon). Get off at Gwanghwamun Station.
  • Walk to the hotels: Shilla Stay about 11 minutes, The Prima and Somerset Palace about 14, Nine Tree about 16.
  • Pay with T-money. Runs from about 05:30 until just after midnight.

Also easy

All-stop train, then Line 1

Under ₩3,000 · about 30 min + 2 stops

  • Take the all-stop train to Seoul Station, change to Line 1, ride two stops to Jonggak.
  • Use this if you land with heavy bags and want a station near the Shilla Stay and The Prima: Jonggak is a 5–7 minute walk.
  • Same T-money card.

Late, or in a hurry

Taxi

≈ ₩20,000–30,000 · 30–50 min

  • Rank outside arrivals, or Kakao T. Our estimate; traffic and the night surcharge decide the fare.
  • Show the Korean hotel name from Step 3.

No limousine bus. The Gimpo bus routes head south and west of the city, so use the subway.

Questions

Incheon Airport to Gwanghwamun: FAQ

How do I get from Incheon Airport to Gwanghwamun?

The simplest way is the airport limousine bus 6002 (stops at Gwanghwamun and Jongno 1-ga) or 6011 (stops at Anguk): no transfer, about 70–90 minutes, ₩17,000. The fastest is the AREX Express to Seoul Station (about 43 minutes, ₩13,000), then Line 1 two stops to Jonggak. The cheapest is the AREX all-stop train and the same Line 1 ride, ₩4,750 from Terminal 1 or ₩5,350 from Terminal 2 in total, because the transfer is free with T-money. A taxi starts around ₩65,000.

What is the cheapest way from Incheon Airport to the hotels near Jogyesa?

The AREX all-stop train to Seoul Station (₩4,750 from Terminal 1, ₩5,350 from Terminal 2) then Line 1 to Jonggak — about 80–95 minutes. With T-money the transfer to Line 1 is free, so there is no extra ₩1,550 fare. You need a T-money card, or a Tmoney Travel Card Plus. The Seoul Climate Card is not valid on the airport railroad.

What if I land after midnight?

The last AREX trains leave around 23:30–23:40 and the daytime limousine buses stop around 23:00. After that, the night bus N6002 leaves Terminal 1 at about 00:00, 00:30, 01:00, 01:40, 04:00 and 04:40 (Terminal 2 about 20 minutes earlier), costs ₩17,000 and stops at the Four Seasons Hotel in Gwanghwamun, 9–14 minutes on foot from the four hotels. A taxi runs all night but costs ₩90,000 or more at night.

Is the N6701 night bus an alternative to N6002?

Only as a last resort. N6701 does not stop in Gwanghwamun: it ends at Dongdaemun Design Plaza, and its nearest stop is at Euljiro 1-ga (Lotte Hotel), about 1 km south of the hotels. Take it only if N6002 is full, then walk about 15–20 minutes or ride a short taxi from Euljiro 1-ga.

Which T-money card do I need for the all-stop train?

A T-money card or a Tmoney Travel Card Plus, loaded with enough balance for the AREX fare and the subway. Buy a T-money card at a convenience store or station machine and top it up with cash; the Tmoney Travel Card Plus tops up in its app. The short-term Seoul Climate Card does not work on the Incheon airport rail line.

How do I get from Gimpo Airport to Gwanghwamun?

Take subway Line 5 from Gimpo Airport Station straight to Gwanghwamun Station with no change — about 45–50 minutes for roughly ₩2,000. A taxi is about 30–50 minutes and roughly ₩20,000–30,000 depending on traffic.

Which bus stop is nearest each hotel?

Nine Tree and Somerset Palace: bus 6011 at Anguk, about 390 m and 580 m on foot. Shilla Stay and The Prima: bus 6002 at Jongno 1-ga, about 460 m each. Jonggak Station on Line 1 is 370 m from The Prima and 520 m from Shilla Stay.

How much is a taxi from Incheon Airport to Gwanghwamun?

Plan on ₩65,000 as the starting point for the metered fare to Seoul, and more for Gwanghwamun, which is toward the far end of the city, plus the airport-expressway tolls and a late-night surcharge. A pre-booked private vehicle is a fixed fare from about ₩90,000 for up to seven passengers.

Does airport bus 6002 stop at Gwanghwamun?

Yes. Airport Limousine 6002 runs from Incheon Airport through Hongdae to Jongno and Cheongnyangni and stops at Gwanghwamun and then Jongno 1-ga. The fare is ₩17,000 and the ride takes about 70–90 minutes. The Jongno 1-ga stop is about 460 m on foot from Shilla Stay Gwanghwamun and The Prima Hotel Jongno.

Is there a direct train from Incheon Airport to Gwanghwamun?

No. The AREX airport railroad ends at Seoul Station, where you change to subway Line 1 and ride two stops to Jonggak, the station nearest the hotels around Jogyesa. From Gimpo Airport, subway Line 5 does run directly to Gwanghwamun Station.

Which is faster to Gwanghwamun, AREX or the airport bus?

AREX Express plus Line 1 is usually faster: about 43–51 minutes to Seoul Station, a 10-minute change and two stops to Jonggak. The airport bus takes 70–90 minutes in traffic but needs no transfer, and the driver loads your luggage, so it is easier with large bags or children.
